What do rings do?
The SONIC PICO PARK SGF preview tutorial describes rings as protection from one hit. That gives a teammate a safety buffer before a dangerous section.
Check each character’s displayed ring count. In the preview, teammates can have different counts at the same time; rings are not reserved for just one player in the group.
How do you get rings from a teammate?
The preview’s tutorial gives a direct tip: Spin Dash into a teammate to obtain rings.
- Look at the team’s displayed ring counts before moving into danger.
- If another teammate holds rings, use the tutorial’s Spin Dash interaction to obtain some.
- Check the counts again before the group continues.
This describes the preview tutorial, without specifying a platform button. It does not establish a fixed number of rings transferred by every collision.
Check the whole team’s ring counts
In one later preview moment, all four teammates have one visible ring. Rather than only checking the lead character, look at the person who will cross the obstacle and anyone helping them.
A ring is described as protection from a hit, not a guarantee against every hazard. The preview does not settle every damage interaction, ring-holding limit or exact loss on a hit.
Rings are one part of cooperation
Sonic-style rings sit alongside loops, springs and Spin Dash in the shared puzzles. Carrying a teammate, stacking to reach a ledge and getting rings to the right character are different ways of working together.
